Paul is presenting a workshop on making beeswax polish. This will include all the basics required to make and use your own beeswax for polish products, and will include physically making a product to take away. All beeswax, tins, oils etc. are included with the workshop.

Ted Gradosielski

Ted Gradosielski is a master beekeeper based in Nazeing, Essex, with nearly 40 years of experience managing millions of bees. He is heavily active within the Essex Beekeepers’ Association (EBKA) and the Epping Forest Beekeepers branch. Ted will be talking to us about how his typical beekeeping year runs.

Roger Patterson

Roger Patterson is a practical beekeeper who started beekeeping in West Sussex in 1963. He is heavily involved in the craft, being a demonstrator at his local BKA since the early 1970s and manager of their teaching apiary. He served a full term as BBKA Trustee, is currently Vice President of Bee Diseases Insurance Ltd (BDI), Lecture Convenor of the National Honey Show and BIBBA President. He has vast experience with a fairly large number of colonies, both his own and others. With a full-time job, he ran 130 of his own for about 15 years.

In addition to featuring in many videos, Roger is a prolific writer and speaker. Live@theHive is the live streaming of Roger in his apiary. In all of these he passes on the knowledge gained from experience and observing bees, in the hope it helps beekeepers to keep their bees in an understanding and caring way.

He owns and manages Dave Cushman’s website www.dave-cushman.net, that is accepted as one of the world’s most comprehensive and respected beekeeping websites.

Roger will be giving two talks. In the first he will be talking to us about how bees prepare for winter well before it arrives and how we as beekeepers can do the same, but from a position of understanding how a free-living colony does it. In the second he highlights a number of beekeeping topics that may not always be as we are told. It doesn’t dismiss the “standard information”, but gives experiences that have been acquired during over half a century of practical beekeeping that can give a different perspective.
